Shoulder Pain

Barrington Physical Therapy | Shoulder Pain

“I went to Barrington PT because I had an injured shoulder, diagnosed as bicep tendonitis. I had pretty intense pain and limited range of motion. I also had numbness and tingling down my arm and hand. Dave started me out with some light exercises and some gentle massage and manipulation. After a couple of visits I was treated with dry needling, cupping and electronic stimulation techniques, which greatly reduced my pain. This allowed me to continue exercising at home to strengthen my shoulder. A few visits later I am almost pain free and I feel strong. I would highly recommend Barrington PT to anyone who needs help with an injury or chronic pain and discomfort.” - Wendi G.

HOW COMMON IS SHOULDER PAIN?

Shoulder pain is a very common injury usually comprising of the rotator cuff. It is not just for athletes and isn't always a result of a serious accident. In fact, many shoulder injuries are from years of use or overuse or poor posture.

  • Do you have pain while performing household chores? Lifting heavy objects? Or while trying to sleep?
  • Have you ever moved furniture and the next day you could barely get a shirt over your head?

If you have experienced any of the above you likely have a shoulder injury. Physical therapy is clinically proven to help relieve your pain, restore your motion and improve your strength so you don't have to have an injection, use medication or have a surgery.

WHAT IS THE ROTATOR CUFF? AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

The rotator cuff is a capsule and muscles with fused tendons that support the arm and allow us a high degree of mobility. However, this mobility comes at a cost: high mobility means low stability. The muscles of the rotator cuff provide the stability and are often get hurt, aggravated or torn. It is important to seek attention if you start to get shoulder pain as this can worsen and lead to bigger injuries and more time away your favorite activities.
